I am a proponent of school choice, not just in affluent zip codes. Parents will be more engaged when they choose the school and the traditional schools have been proven to improve with the competition of new options. A child’s future should not be determined by the zip code of their home.
Parents need to know and have a say in what their children are being taught in our classrooms. I support open discussion and participation of parents in school curriculum and instruction.
We do not need liberal groups like the NEA bringing their liberal agenda into our elementary schools and public libraries. I will hold the line and work to restore teaching traditional values to Alabama students in our public schools.
For almost 30 years, we have seen Alabama's education going in the wrong direction. Obviously what has been pushed isn't working. I will work with teachers and parents to ensure our kids are learning the knowledge and skills needed for every student to be successful.
We need to strive to give our kids the tools they need to succeed. We need to focus on expansion of STEM programs in our schools.
I do not support the raising of taxes when our families our struggling. We have seen time and time again tax referendums being defeated. I believe this is mostly because parents know that there is a lot of waste in school funding.
